Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.00%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Consumption and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 1.00%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ), which rose 6.47% or 2.90 points to trade at 47.71 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA: SUZB3 ) added 6.00% or 1.07 points to end at 18.89 and Kroton Educacional SA (SA: KROT3 ) was up 4.36% or 0.77 points to 18.44 in late trade.

Biggest losers included EDP - Energias do Brasil SA (SA: ENBR3 ), which lost 2.08% or 0.29 points to trade at 13.63 in late trade. BRF SA (SA: BRFS3 ) declined 1.60% or 0.60 points to end at 36.84 and TAESA UNT N2 (SA: TAEE11 ) shed 1.51% or 0.32 points to 20.81.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 207 to 174 and 43 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.68% to 34.47.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.14% or 1.80 to $1266.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.97% or 1.71 to hit $55.91 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.98% or 1.25 to trade at $126.03 .

USD/BRL was down 0.19% to 3.2353, while EUR/BRL fell 0.47% to 3.8156.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 93.53.
