Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.55% – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electric Power , Public Utilities and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.55% to hit a new 1-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA: CPLE6 ), which rose 5.06% or 1.28 points to trade at 26.58 at the close. WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) added 4.80% or 0.82 points to end at 17.92 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR3 ) was up 4.04% or 0.95 points to 24.45 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ), which lost 5.37% or 1.93 points to trade at 33.98 in late trade. Viavarejo Unt (SA: VVAR11 ) declined 4.39% or 1.39 points to end at 30.26 and Hypermarcas SA (SA: HYPE3 ) shed 4.00% or 1.31 points to 31.48.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 245 to 140 and 38 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 8.40% to 27.70.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.32% or 4.20 to $1318.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.18% or 0.12 to hit $68.17 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.47% or 0.56 to trade at $119.53 .

USD/BRL was down 0.24% to 3.4765, while EUR/BRL fell 0.74% to 4.2067.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.40% at 91.39.
