Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.71%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Consumption and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.71% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA: CSAN3 ), which rose 7.63% or 2.74 points to trade at 38.63 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ) added 7.10% or 1.77 points to end at 26.71 and B2W Cia Digital (SA: BTOW3 ) was up 6.62% or 2.78 points to 44.78 in late trade.

Biggest losers included BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA: BBSE3 ), which lost 3.16% or 0.87 points to trade at 26.65 in late trade. Fleury SA (SA: FLRY3 ) declined 1.50% or 0.32 points to end at 21.08 and Via Varejo SA (SA: VVAR3 ) shed 1.49% or 0.06 points to 3.98.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 296 to 145 and 39 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 7.18% to 31.42 a new 3-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.58% or 7.40 to $1293.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 5.20% or 2.59 to hit $52.37 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.10% or 0.10 to trade at $104.95 .

USD/BRL was down 0.85% to 3.6815, while EUR/BRL rose 0.08% to 4.2512.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 94.757.
