Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.73%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.73%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR3 ), which rose 10.02% or 2.48 points to trade at 27.22 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA: PETR4 ) added 8.16% or 1.87 points to end at 24.78 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA: MRFG3 ) was up 6.66% or 0.51 points to 8.17 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA: GOLL4 ), which lost 9.25% or 1.56 points to trade at 15.30 in late trade. Tim Participacoes SA (SA: TIMP3 ) declined 6.18% or 0.98 points to end at 14.87 and Smiles Fidelidade SA (SA: SMLS3 ) shed 4.57% or 3.15 points to 65.81.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 229 to 201 and 34 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.88% to 28.22.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.08% or 1.00 to $1312.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.13% or 2.16 to hit $71.22 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.79% or 0.95 to trade at $118.72 .

USD/BRL was up 0.82% to 3.5930, while EUR/BRL rose 0.78% to 4.2592.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 92.95.
