Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.98%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate , Financials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.98% to hit a new 1-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ), which rose 8.63% or 0.65 points to trade at 8.18 at the close. Magazine Luiza SA (SA: MGLU3 ) added 7.55% or 8.65 points to end at 123.16 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) was up 5.81% or 0.44 points to 8.01 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hypermarcas SA (SA: HYPE3 ), which lost 2.47% or 0.69 points to trade at 27.25 in late trade. Braskem SA (SA: BRKM5 ) declined 2.14% or 1.15 points to end at 52.53 and Qualicorp SA (SA: QUAL3 ) shed 1.40% or 0.28 points to 19.67.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 282 to 133 and 42 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.49% to 32.54.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.22% or 2.70 to $1247.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $70.34 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.28% or 0.31 to trade at $111.72 .

USD/BRL was up 0.17% to 3.8837, while EUR/BRL rose 0.15% to 4.5320.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 94.56.
