Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.09%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Public Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.09% to hit a new 3-year high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ), which rose 11.30% or 0.47 points to trade at 4.63 at the close. Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA: PCAR4 ) added 3.49% or 2.02 points to end at 59.90 and BRF SA (SA: BRFS3 ) was up 3.07% or 1.61 points to 54.09 in late trade.

Biggest losers included JBS SA (SA: JBSS3 ), which lost 2.50% or 0.25 points to trade at 9.75 in late trade. Ambev SA (SA: ABEV3 ) declined 2.05% or 0.40 points to end at 19.10 and MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA: MRVE3 ) shed 1.73% or 0.22 points to 12.53.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 207 to 141 and 38 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.61% to 31.43.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.47% or 6.00 to $1275.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.11% or 1.05 to hit $48.67 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.26% or 0.43 to trade at $165.45 .

USD/BRL was up 1.15% to 3.2065, while EUR/BRL rose 2.00% to 3.5227.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.62% at 98.31.
