Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.12%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Industrials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.12%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ), which rose 8.88% or 0.27 points to trade at 3.31 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA: GOAU4 ) added 4.51% or 0.120 points to end at 2.780 and Gerdau SA (SA: GGBR4 ) was up 4.21% or 0.32 points to 7.92 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR4 ), which lost 3.11% or 0.37 points to trade at 11.51 in late trade. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ) declined 2.77% or 0.49 points to end at 17.19 and Qualicorp SA (SA: QUAL3 ) shed 2.74% or 0.60 points to 21.30.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 159 to 128 and 34 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.95% to 32.19 a new 52-week low.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.55% or 20.60 to $1348.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.35% or 1.01 to hit $41.91 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.35% or 0.50 to trade at $141.12 .

USD/BRL was down 0.34% to 3.2626, while EUR/BRL rose 0.32% to 3.6079.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.45% at 96.73.
