Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.17%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumption , Industrials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.17% to hit a new 52-week high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA: JBSS3 ), which rose 7.36% or 0.81 points to trade at 11.82 at the close. Kroton Educacional SA (SA: KROT3 ) added 5.50% or 0.800 points to end at 15.340 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA: GOAU4 ) was up 4.25% or 0.170 points to 4.170 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tim Participacoes SA (SA: TIMP3 ), which lost 3.13% or 0.27 points to trade at 8.36 in late trade. BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA: BRML3 ) declined 2.89% or 0.38 points to end at 12.77 and Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ) shed 2.63% or 0.48 points to 17.79.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 189 to 156 and 26 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.68% to 30.98.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 7.75 to $1341.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 4.07% or 1.85 to hit $47.35 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.12% or 0.18 to trade at $154.77 .

USD/BRL was up 0.75% to 3.2171, while EUR/BRL rose 0.93% to 3.6216.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.06.
