Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.82%
Credit: © Reuters. – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials , Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.82% to hit a new 1-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Kroton Educacional SA (SA: KROT3 ), which rose 4.04% or 0.57 points to trade at 14.67 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ) added 4.04% or 0.67 points to end at 17.26 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA: CSAN3 ) was up 3.60% or 1.38 points to 39.74 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ), which lost 3.93% or 1.25 points to trade at 30.57 in late trade. Vale SA Pref (SA: VALE5 ) declined 1.96% or 0.57 points to end at 28.49 and Cielo SA (SA: CIEL3 ) shed 1.74% or 0.45 points to 25.46.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 253 to 150 and 31 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.21% to 32.84.

In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.59% or 19.05 to $1215.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.23% or 0.12 to hit $52.49 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.58% or 0.87 to trade at $149.90 .

USD/BRL was down 0.98% to 3.2096, while EUR/BRL rose 0.02% to 3.4374.

The US Dollar Index was down 1.18% at 100.33.
