Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.85%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.85%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Bradespar SA (SA: BRAP4 ), which rose 4.67% or 0.99 points to trade at 22.19 at the close. Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ) added 3.86% or 1.14 points to end at 30.65 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) was up 3.57% or 0.32 points to 9.29 in late trade.

Biggest losers included CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA: CMIG4 ), which lost 3.12% or 0.32 points to trade at 9.93 in late trade. Telefonica Brasil SA (SA: VIVT4 ) declined 1.93% or 0.90 points to end at 45.79 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA: CSAN3 ) shed 1.75% or 0.68 points to 38.22.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 195 to 157 and 37 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.97% to 29.69 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.35 to $1258.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.63% or 0.82 to hit $51.06 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.11% or 0.15 to trade at $137.77 .

USD/BRL was down 0.56% to 3.0969, while EUR/BRL fell 0.56% to 3.3044.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 100.43.
