Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.33%
Credit: © Reuters. – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Real Estate and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.33%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA: CMIG4 ), which rose 4.84% or 0.53 points to trade at 11.48 at the close. Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ) added 4.59% or 1.36 points to end at 31.01 and Vale SA Pref (SA: VALE5 ) was up 4.01% or 1.13 points to 29.32 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ), which lost 2.91% or 0.45 points to trade at 15.00 in late trade. WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) declined 2.88% or 0.50 points to end at 16.85 and Equatorial Energia SA (SA: EQTL3 ) shed 2.15% or 1.24 points to 56.41.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 236 to 138 and 28 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 5.71% to 30.69.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.19% or 2.25 to $1203.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.14% or 0.07 to hit $48.42 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.74% or 1.05 to trade at $142.43 .

USD/BRL was up 0.37% to 3.1512, while EUR/BRL rose 0.24% to 3.3582.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 101.25.
