Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.85%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Public Utilities and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.85%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA: PETR4 ), which rose 7.30% or 1.06 points to trade at 15.58 at the close. Banco do Brasil SA (SA: BBAS3 ) added 7.84% or 2.06 points to end at 28.33 and Vale SA (SA: VALE5 ) was up 5.54% or 1.23 points to 23.43 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Embraer SA (SA: EMBR3 ), which lost 2.97% or 0.52 points to trade at 16.99 in late trade. JBS SA (SA: JBSS3 ) declined 2.96% or 0.30 points to end at 9.85 and WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) shed 2.92% or 0.48 points to 15.95.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 213 to 188 and 38 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 6.30% to 36.89.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.26% or 3.15 to $1211.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.27% or 1.98 to hit $48.34 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.54% or 0.88 to trade at $162.98 .

USD/BRL was down 0.91% to 3.3525, while EUR/BRL fell 0.64% to 3.5601.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 101.05.
