Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.18%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.18%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA: JBSS3 ), which rose 3.87% or 0.32 points to trade at 8.59 at the close. Kroton Educacional SA (SA: KROT3 ) added 2.37% or 0.45 points to end at 19.45 and WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) was up 2.29% or 0.50 points to 22.35 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bradespar SA (SA: BRAP4 ), which lost 4.07% or 1.09 points to trade at 25.70 in late trade. Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ) declined 3.31% or 1.15 points to end at 33.62 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA: GOAU4 ) shed 2.54% or 0.15 points to 5.75.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 211 to 188 and 23 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.38% to 29.17 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.39% or 5.18 to $1333.18 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.85% or 0.42 to hit $49.72 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.12% or 0.17 to trade at $137.82 .

USD/BRL was down 0.61% to 3.1159, while EUR/BRL fell 0.39% to 3.7116.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 92.09.
