Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.74%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Financials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.74%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Hypermarcas SA (SA: HYPE3 ), which rose 3.24% or 1.09 points to trade at 34.76 at the close. WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) added 2.81% or 0.65 points to end at 23.80 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ) was up 2.05% or 0.90 points to 44.81 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ), which lost 4.23% or 0.38 points to trade at 8.60 in late trade. CPFL Energia SA (SA: CPFE3 ) declined 3.95% or 0.75 points to end at 18.25 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) shed 3.46% or 0.26 points to 7.26.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 233 to 136 and 41 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.19% to 34.73.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.67% or 8.60 to $1269.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.26% or 0.15 to hit $57.62 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.93% or 1.19 to trade at $127.28 .

USD/BRL was down 0.08% to 3.2417, while EUR/BRL fell 0.44% to 3.8322.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 93.28.
