Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.79%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Financials , Real Estate and Consumption sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.79%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA: CPLE6 ), which rose 2.59% or 0.75 points to trade at 29.70 at the close. JBS SA (SA: JBSS3 ) added 2.39% or 0.26 points to end at 11.12 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA: PCAR4 ) was up 2.22% or 1.85 points to 85.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA: GOLL4 ), which lost 7.53% or 1.65 points to trade at 20.25 in late trade. Cielo SA (SA: CIEL3 ) declined 5.41% or 0.50 points to end at 8.75 and EcoRodovias SA (SA: ECOR3 ) shed 5.23% or 0.48 points to 8.69.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 258 to 190 and 27 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.79% to 39.63.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1228.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.24% or 1.13 to hit $51.55 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 2.72% or 3.10 to trade at $111.00 .

USD/BRL was up 2.94% to 3.9410, while EUR/BRL rose 2.89% to 4.4661.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 96.955.
