Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.98%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financials , Consumption and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.98%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ), which rose 5.39% or 0.82 points to trade at 16.02 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET6 ) added 4.08% or 0.70 points to end at 17.84 and Viavarejo Unt (SA: VVAR11 ) was up 2.94% or 0.54 points to 18.92 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ), which lost 6.81% or 1.75 points to trade at 23.95 in late trade. Smiles Fidelidade SA (SA: SMLS3 ) declined 4.89% or 2.75 points to end at 53.45 and Cielo SA (SA: CIEL3 ) shed 3.95% or 0.70 points to 17.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 258 to 206 and 27 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.09% to 31.79.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1227.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.01% or 0.68 to hit $67.84 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.95% or 1.04 to trade at $108.08 .

USD/BRL was up 0.09% to 3.8422, while EUR/BRL fell 0.01% to 4.4752.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 94.83.
