Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.41%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.41% to hit a new 3-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Magazine Luiza SA (SA: MGLU3 ), which rose 4.22% or 4.44 points to trade at 109.53 at the close. Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA: GOLL4 ) added 3.73% or 0.53 points to end at 14.74 and Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA: CPLE6 ) was up 2.27% or 0.54 points to 24.30 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA: UGPA3 ), which lost 5.94% or 3.24 points to trade at 51.34 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ) declined 4.01% or 0.74 points to end at 17.71 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR3 ) shed 3.35% or 1.01 points to 29.14.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 283 to 171 and 25 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.82% to 31.41.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.08% or 1.00 to $1292.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.67% or 1.19 to hit $72.56 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.66% or 1.96 to trade at $120.08 .

USD/BRL was down 1.49% to 3.6808, while EUR/BRL fell 1.32% to 4.3401.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 93.45.
