Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.70%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Financials , Consumption and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.70%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Embraer SA (SA: EMBR3 ), which rose 4.41% or 0.90 points to trade at 21.30 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ) added 1.84% or 1.02 points to end at 56.43 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ) was up 0.85% or 0.10 points to 11.80 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Viavarejo Unt (SA: VVAR11 ), which lost 4.16% or 1.16 points to trade at 26.72 in late trade. EcoRodovias SA (SA: ECOR3 ) declined 4.13% or 0.48 points to end at 11.15 and WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) shed 3.19% or 0.75 points to 22.75.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 281 to 142 and 32 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 9.62% to 31.12.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.96% or 12.90 to $1335.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.71% or 0.47 to hit $65.33 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.74% or 0.90 to trade at $120.38 .

USD/BRL was up 1.64% to 3.2187, while EUR/BRL rose 1.24% to 4.0112.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.55% at 88.97.
