Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.94%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financials , Public Utilities and Consumption sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.94%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA: GOAU4 ), which rose 1.38% or 0.07 points to trade at 5.13 at the close. Embraer SA (SA: EMBR3 ) added 1.30% or 0.20 points to end at 15.55 and Gerdau SA Pref (SA: GGBR4 ) was up 1.09% or 0.12 points to 11.10 in late trade.

Biggest losers included CPFL Energia SA (SA: CPFE3 ), which lost 6.89% or 1.87 points to trade at 25.28 in late trade. Banco do Brasil SA (SA: BBAS3 ) declined 4.53% or 1.48 points to end at 31.16 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ) shed 3.99% or 0.37 points to 8.90.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 276 to 109 and 28 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.38% to 33.71.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.89% or 11.49 to $1283.41 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.00% or 0.58 to hit $57.41 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 2.04% or 2.65 to trade at $132.32 .

USD/BRL was up 1.03% to 3.2458, while EUR/BRL rose 1.18% to 3.8490.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 93.16.
