Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 2.32% – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Consumption and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 2.32%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cielo SA (SA: CIEL3 ), which rose 1.89% or 0.23 points to trade at 12.38 at the close. Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA: SBSP3 ) added 1.80% or 0.50 points to end at 28.30 and Tim Participacoes SA (SA: TIMP3 ) was up 1.69% or 0.18 points to 10.81 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Kroton Educacional SA (SA: KROT3 ), which lost 7.22% or 0.84 points to trade at 10.80 in late trade. CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA: CMIG4 ) declined 5.48% or 0.66 points to end at 11.39 and Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA: GOLL4 ) shed 6.37% or 1.16 points to 17.05.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 289 to 187 and 31 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 7.85% to 43.17.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.12% or 1.50 to $1231.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.15% or 0.78 to hit $66.81 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 4.47% or 5.35 to trade at $114.30 .

USD/BRL was up 1.87% to 3.7117, while EUR/BRL rose 1.71% to 4.2259.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.38.
