Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.27%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities , Consumption and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.27%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Gerdau SA (SA: GGBR4 ), which rose 4.23% or 0.42 points to trade at 10.34 at the close. Telefonica Brasil SA (SA: VIVT4 ) added 2.39% or 1.13 points to end at 48.50 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR3 ) was up 1.81% or 0.27 points to 15.18 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Lojas Americanas SA (SA: LAME4 ), which lost 4.29% or 0.84 points to trade at 18.75 in late trade. Engie Brasil Energia SA (SA: EGIE3 ) declined 3.94% or 1.65 points to end at 40.20 and Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA: CESP6 ) shed 3.52% or 0.47 points to 12.90.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 150 to 148 and 17 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.35% to 32.40.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.63% or 8.45 to $1357.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.21% or 1.50 to hit $48.29 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 2.59% or 3.50 to trade at $138.60 .

USD/BRL was up 1.08% to 3.2404, while EUR/BRL rose 1.73% to 3.6831.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.62% at 94.10.
