Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.43%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Public Utilities , Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.43%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Kroton Educacional SA (SA: KROT3 ), which rose 1.20% or 0.180 points to trade at 15.200 at the close. Raia Drogasil SA (SA: RADL3 ) added 0.94% or 0.610 points to end at 65.210 and Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA: RENT3 ) was up 0.83% or 0.33 points to 39.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Gerdau SA (SA: GGBR4 ), which lost 3.67% or 0.32 points to trade at 8.39 in late trade. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ) declined 3.66% or 0.13 points to end at 3.42 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) shed 3.14% or 0.26 points to 8.01.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 224 to 99 and 24 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.21% to 36.18.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.38% or 4.95 to $1313.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.57% or 0.69 to hit $43.22 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.05% or 0.07 to trade at $148.75 .

USD/BRL was down 1.03% to 3.2684, while EUR/BRL fell 1.84% to 3.6455.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.83% at 96.07.
