Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.53%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Consumption and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.53%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Raia Drogasil SA (SA: RADL3 ), which rose 2.99% or 1.74 points to trade at 59.84 at the close. BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA: BBSE3 ) added 1.94% or 0.55 points to end at 28.97 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ) was up 1.69% or 0.44 points to 26.53 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bradespar SA (SA: BRAP4 ), which lost 5.31% or 1.28 points to trade at 22.83 in late trade. Vale SA Pref (SA: VALE5 ) declined 4.74% or 1.51 points to end at 30.36 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ) shed 4.70% or 1.02 points to 20.67.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 208 to 137 and 30 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 6.03% to 33.21 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.20% or 14.95 to $1235.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.15% or 1.16 to hit $52.67 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.63% or 0.91 to trade at $144.27 .

USD/BRL was up 1.89% to 3.1485, while EUR/BRL rose 1.49% to 3.3074.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 102.19.
