Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.67%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financials , Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.67% to hit a new 3-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Tim Participacoes SA (SA: TIMP3 ), which rose 1.48% or 0.15 points to trade at 10.30 at the close. Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA: CYRE3 ) added 1.30% or 0.17 points to end at 13.20 and Vale SA Pref (SA: VALE5 ) was up 0.96% or 0.25 points to 26.29 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Banco do Brasil SA (SA: BBAS3 ), which lost 5.20% or 1.68 points to trade at 30.60 in late trade. Embraer SA (SA: EMBR3 ) declined 5.16% or 0.86 points to end at 15.80 and CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA: CMIG4 ) shed 5.05% or 0.48 points to 9.02.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 208 to 127 and 37 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.67% to 34.94.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.89% or 11.35 to $1289.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $53.08 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.70% or 0.97 to trade at $139.07 .

USD/BRL was up 0.57% to 3.1431, while EUR/BRL rose 0.00% to 3.3351.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 100.49.
