Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.04%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare , Telecoms and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.04% to hit a new 3-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cronos Group Inc (TO: CRON ), which rose 15.98% or 3.3800 points to trade at 24.5300 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TO: IMG ) added 10.07% or 0.410 points to end at 4.480 and Alamos Gold Inc (TO: AGI ) was up 6.00% or 0.32 points to 5.65 in late trade.

Biggest losers included SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TO: SNC ), which lost 27.81% or 13.49 points to trade at 35.01 in late trade. Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TO: GTE ) declined 4.73% or 0.150 points to end at 3.020 and BRP Inc (TO: DOO ) shed 4.50% or 1.76 points to 37.37.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 616 to 470 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.93% to 17.19.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.37% or 4.85 to $1302.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.74% or 1.47 to hit $52.22 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.70% or 1.66 to trade at $59.93 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.25% to 0.7545, while CAD/EUR fell 0.44% to 0.6602.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 95.425.
