Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.07%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare , IT and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.07%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO: ACB ), which rose 10.05% or 0.830 points to trade at 9.090 at the close. Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO: SW ) added 7.79% or 2.03 points to end at 28.10 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO: PD ) was up 5.35% or 0.24 points to 4.73 in late trade.

Biggest losers included BRP Inc. (TO: DOO ), which lost 8.41% or 5.98 points to trade at 65.13 in late trade. Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO: GUY ) declined 6.25% or 0.210 points to end at 3.150 and Centerra Gold Inc (TO: CG ) shed 3.98% or 0.21 points to 5.06.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 554 to 535 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.01% to 14.72.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 2.80 to $1202.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.77% or 1.87 to hit $69.41 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.35% or 1.82 to trade at $79.19 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.68% to 0.7649, while CAD/EUR rose 0.66% to 0.6596.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 95.10.
