Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.09%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare , Clean Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.09%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO: APH ), which rose 12.03% or 1.750 points to trade at 16.300 at the close. Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TO: GTE ) added 7.38% or 0.310 points to end at 4.510 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO: WEED ) was up 6.92% or 3.870 points to 59.770 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Corus Entertainment Inc (TO: CJRb ), which lost 2.78% or 0.11 points to trade at 3.84 in late trade. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TO: VII ) declined 2.72% or 0.44 points to end at 15.72 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO: PVG ) shed 2.40% or 0.28 points to 11.40.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 604 to 486 and 142 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.06% to 11.24 a new 6-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.10% or 1.20 to $1213.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.71% or 1.17 to hit $69.70 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.82% or 1.39 to trade at $77.68 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.16% to 0.7746, while CAD/EUR rose 0.03% to 0.6615.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 94.45.
