Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.16%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare , IT and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.16%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Altus Group Limited (TO: AIF ), which rose 11.02% or 3.140 points to trade at 31.640 at the close. MEG Energy Corp (TO: MEG ) added 5.83% or 0.48 points to end at 8.72 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO: WEED ) was up 4.52% or 1.550 points to 35.810 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Magna International Inc (TO: MG ), which lost 7.97% or 6.13 points to trade at 70.75 in late trade. Semafo Inc . (TO: SMF ) declined 6.69% or 0.24 points to end at 3.35 and Linamar Corporation (TO: LNR ) shed 6.31% or 3.65 points to 54.17.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 545 to 514 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.49% to 12.71.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.28% or 3.40 to $1221.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.46% or 2.39 to hit $66.78 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.30% or 2.46 to trade at $72.19 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.26% to 0.7681, while CAD/EUR rose 0.14% to 0.6613.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 94.92.
