Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.19%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , Industrials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.19%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alacer Gold Corp (TSX: ASR ), which rose 5.93% or 0.320 points to trade at 5.720 at the close. B2Gold Corp (TSX: BTO ) added 4.47% or 0.190 points to end at 4.440 and Encana Corporation (TSX: ECA ) was up 4.04% or 0.22 points to 5.66 in late trade.

Biggest losers included PrairieSky Royalty Ltd (TSX: PSK ), which lost 11.13% or 1.64 points to trade at 13.10 in late trade. Colliers International Group Inc Bats (TSX: CIGI ) declined 6.77% or 6.33 points to end at 87.20 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ) shed 4.67% or 1.320 points to 26.920.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 525 to 507 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.44% to 11.41.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.40% or 5.95 to $1489.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.56% or 0.31 to hit $55.50 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $61.17 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7643, while CAD/EUR rose 0.08% to 0.6879.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 97.465.
