Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.19%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare , IT and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.19% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pretium Resources Inc. (TO: PVG ), which rose 24.07% or 2.92 points to trade at 15.05 at the close. ShawCor Ltd. (TO: SCL ) added 8.62% or 2.35 points to end at 29.60 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO: WEED ) was up 5.92% or 0.760 points to 13.590 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Element Fleet Management Corp (TO: EFN ), which lost 4.09% or 0.41 points to trade at 9.62 in late trade. Precision Drilling Corporation (TO: PD ) declined 3.58% or 0.12 points to end at 3.23 and DHX Media Ltd B (TO: DHXb ) shed 3.22% or 0.16 points to 4.81.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 619 to 493 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.25% to 11.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.12% or 1.60 to $1295.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.81% or 0.41 to hit $51.33 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.27 to trade at $56.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.43% to 0.8029, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.6766.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 92.73.
