Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.27%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy , Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.27% to hit a new 3-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TO: SNC ), which rose 6.30% or 2.19 points to trade at 36.95 at the close. New Gold Inc (TO: NGD ) added 6.03% or 0.070 points to end at 1.230 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO: FR ) was up 5.09% or 0.44 points to 9.08 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Cronos Group Inc (TO: CRON ), which lost 7.32% or 2.1100 points to trade at 26.7000 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TO: APHA ) declined 4.36% or 0.580 points to end at 12.730 and Barrick Gold Corporation (TO: ABX ) shed 3.09% or 0.53 points to 16.60.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 612 to 474 and 126 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.01% to 13.73.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.23% or 3.10 to $1329.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.21% or 1.84 to hit $55.42 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $64.94 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7583, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6671.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 96.305.
