Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.58%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare , Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.58%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO: WEED ), which rose 8.38% or 3.410 points to trade at 44.090 at the close. Precision Drilling Corporation (TO: PD ) added 4.09% or 0.19 points to end at 4.83 and Alacer Gold Corp (TO: ASR ) was up 4.05% or 0.090 points to 2.310 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Kinaxis Inc (TO: KXS ), which lost 4.01% or 4.00 points to trade at 95.70 in late trade. MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (TO: MAXR ) declined 3.02% or 1.51 points to end at 48.51 and Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TO: GC ) shed 2.68% or 1.21 points to 43.89.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 647 to 404 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.07% to 13.26.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.63% or 7.40 to $1191.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.67% or 0.44 to hit $65.90 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.35 to trade at $71.78 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.74% to 0.7657, while CAD/EUR rose 0.16% to 0.6692.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 95.99.
