Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lucara Diamond Corp (TO:LUC), which rose 9.44% or 0.340 points to trade at 3.940 at the close. Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) added 9.30% or 1.850 points to end at 21.750 and Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR) was up 7.09% or 1.05 points to 15.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP), which lost 3.46% or 0.120 points to trade at 3.350 in late trade. Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR) declined 3.33% or 0.38 points to end at 11.04 and Bonterra Energy Corp (TO:BNE) shed 3.31% or 0.82 points to 23.96.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 648 to 468 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.27% to 14.13.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.44% or 5.75 to $1317.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.64% or 1.18 to hit $43.52 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.41% or 1.13 to trade at $45.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.7638, while CAD/EUR fell 0.29% to 0.6818.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.40% at 95.63.
