Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.63%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.63% to hit a new 3-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TO: SNC ), which rose 6.54% or 2.29 points to trade at 37.30 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TO: IMG ) added 5.80% or 0.260 points to end at 4.740 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO: FM ) was up 5.22% or 0.68 points to 13.71 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TO: WEED ), which lost 6.90% or 4.640 points to trade at 62.580 in late trade. Cascades Inc . (TO: CAS ) declined 4.34% or 0.45 points to end at 9.91 and New Gold Inc (TO: NGD ) shed 3.18% or 0.050 points to 1.520.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 627 to 441 and 133 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.92% to 16.86.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.56% or 7.35 to $1310.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.23% or 1.16 to hit $53.15 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.01% or 1.20 to trade at $61.01 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7532, while CAD/EUR fell 0.15% to 0.6588.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 95.518.
