Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.06%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT , Industrials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.06%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO: WTE ), which rose 4.84% or 1.01 points to trade at 21.87 at the close. Crew Energy Inc (TO: CR ) added 4.75% or 0.30 points to end at 6.61 and MAG Silver Corp . (TO: MAG ) was up 3.24% or 0.64 points to 20.38 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (TO: CMG ), which lost 3.11% or 0.30 points to trade at 9.34 in late trade. Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO: BAD ) declined 2.60% or 0.70 points to end at 26.25 and B2Gold Corp (TO: BTO ) shed 2.59% or 0.100 points to 3.760.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 644 to 467 and 148 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.64% to 13.44.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.40 to $1324.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $47.34 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.06 to trade at $49.73 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.57% to 0.7694, while CAD/EUR rose 0.20% to 0.6870.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.80% at 95.44.
