Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, REITs and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.12% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP), which rose 20.11% or 0.710 points to trade at 4.240 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) added 9.40% or 0.420 points to end at 4.890 and Intertain Group (TO:IT) was up 8.16% or 0.86 points to 11.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which lost 4.25% or 0.090 points to trade at 2.030 in late trade. Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR) declined 3.68% or 0.39 points to end at 10.20 and Descartes Systems Group Inc (TO:DSG) shed 3.58% or 1.02 points to 27.44.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 666 to 528 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.87% to 13.60.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 2.08% or 27.55 to $1354.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.90% or 0.40 to hit $44.84 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.80% or 0.38 to trade at $47.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.72% to 0.7791, while CAD/EUR fell 0.29% to 0.6918.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.95% at 94.83.
