Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.17%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the REITs , Energy and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.17%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were B2Gold Corp (TO: BTO ), which rose 5.79% or 0.180 points to trade at 3.290 at the close. Asanko Gold Inc (TO: AKG ) added 5.43% or 0.260 points to end at 5.050 and Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (TO: PBH ) was up 5.22% or 3.19 points to 64.33 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Amaya Inc (TO: AYA ), which lost 6.20% or 1.42 points to trade at 21.50 in late trade. Mitel Networks Corporation (TO: MNW ) declined 3.86% or 0.36 points to end at 8.97 and Dorel Industries Inc (TO: DIIb ) shed 3.45% or 1.22 points to 34.19.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 573 to 547 and 131 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.85% to 15.41.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.42% or 5.25 to $1259.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.50% or 0.25 to hit $50.43 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.20 to trade at $52.01 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.61% to 0.7579, while CAD/EUR rose 0.15% to 0.6852.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.45% at 97.55.
