Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Real Estate and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC), which rose 7.26% or 2.31 points to trade at 34.14 at the close. Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) added 7.20% or 0.290 points to end at 4.320 and Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) was up 7.00% or 0.46 points to 7.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which lost 4.97% or 0.28 points to trade at 5.35 in late trade. Air Canada (TO:AC) declined 4.77% or 0.450 points to end at 8.990 and Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR) shed 4.68% or 1.12 points to 22.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 675 to 470 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.07% to 13.11.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.28% or 17.20 to $1358.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.75% or 0.31 to hit $41.45 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.42% or 0.18 to trade at $43.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.86% to 0.7666, while CAD/EUR fell 0.07% to 0.6857.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.22% at 95.51.
