Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.25%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT , Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.25%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were DH Corp (TO: DH ), which rose 9.20% or 2.12 points to trade at 25.16 at the close. Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO: GUY ) added 7.23% or 0.470 points to end at 6.970 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO: KL ) was up 6.61% or 0.580 points to 9.360 in late trade.

Biggest losers included New Gold Inc . (TO: NGD ), which lost 3.84% or 0.150 points to trade at 3.760 in late trade. Cott Corporation (TO: BCB ) declined 3.81% or 0.63 points to end at 15.89 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO: IVN ) shed 2.61% or 0.110 points to 4.110.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 744 to 431 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 25.24% to 14.34.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.20% or 2.45 to $1203.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $48.46 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $51.42 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7438, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.6981.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 101.26.
