Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.05%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrials , Telecoms and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.05%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX: HBM ), which rose 6.41% or 0.43 points to trade at 7.14 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX: FM ) added 6.31% or 0.79 points to end at 13.31 and Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: BTE ) was up 5.62% or 0.10 points to 1.88 in late trade.

Biggest losers included CannTrust Holdings Inc (TSX: TRST ), which lost 5.73% or 0.2200 points to trade at 3.6200 in late trade. BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ) declined 4.80% or 2.26 points to end at 44.83 and Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX: TRQ ) shed 3.49% or 0.030 points to 0.830.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 522 to 521 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.37% to 10.29.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 1.80 to $1426.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.81% or 0.45 to hit $55.75 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.47% or 0.91 to trade at $62.84 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.22% to 0.7658, while CAD/EUR rose 0.26% to 0.6823.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 96.817.
