Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.08%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare , Consumer Staples and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.08%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were CCL Industries Inc (TO: CCLb ), which rose 9.28% or 5.38 points to trade at 63.38 at the close. Element Fleet Management Corp (TO: EFN ) added 4.63% or 0.22 points to end at 4.97 and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TO: SNC ) was up 3.96% or 2.12 points to 55.60 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Stantec Inc. (TO: STN ), which lost 11.02% or 4.04 points to trade at 32.61 in late trade. Mitel Networks Corporation (TO: MNW ) declined 9.06% or 1.06 points to end at 10.64 and Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO: TCW ) shed 8.96% or 0.310 points to 3.150.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 571 to 521 and 173 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 25.82% to 16.06.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.05% or 0.70 to $1332.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.65% or 1.02 to hit $62.70 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.36% or 0.89 to trade at $66.31 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7864, while CAD/EUR fell 0.44% to 0.6380.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 89.69.
