Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.20%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials , IT and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.20%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hudson's Bay Company (TO: HBC ), which rose 8.16% or 0.92 points to trade at 12.19 at the close. Precision Drilling Corporation (TO: PD ) added 8.10% or 0.26 points to end at 3.47 and CES Energy Solutions Corp (TO: CEU ) was up 6.77% or 0.350 points to 5.520 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO: GUY ), which lost 5.94% or 0.310 points to trade at 4.910 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO: YRI ) declined 4.60% or 0.18 points to end at 3.73 and Klondex Mines Ltd. (TO: KDX ) shed 4.25% or 0.190 points to 4.280.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 580 to 523 and 135 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.37% to 8.29.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.39% or 5.27 to $1339.23 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.97% or 0.47 to hit $49.13 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.55% or 0.83 to trade at $54.21 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 1.24% to 0.8181, while CAD/EUR rose 1.19% to 0.6865.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 92.21.
