Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.48%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare , Energy and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.48%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX: BIR ), which rose 2.99% or 0.08 points to trade at 2.76 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) added 2.65% or 10.880 points to end at 421.470 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ERO ) was up 1.89% or 0.42 points to 22.62 in late trade.

Biggest losers included CannTrust Holdings Inc (TSX: TRST ), which lost 22.60% or 1.4600 points to trade at 5.0000 in late trade. SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX: SNC ) declined 6.32% or 1.68 points to end at 24.92 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX: PD ) shed 4.53% or 0.11 points to 2.32.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 612 to 438 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.36% to 10.71.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.18% or 2.50 to $1397.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.09% or 0.05 to hit $57.56 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $63.92 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7638, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6812.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 96.972.
