Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.72%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare , IT and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.72% to hit a new 3-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO: EFN ), which rose 20.15% or 1.35 points to trade at 8.05 at the close. Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO: KL ) added 7.09% or 1.710 points to end at 25.820 and Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO: GUY ) was up 6.90% or 0.200 points to 3.100 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TO: APH ), which lost 9.91% or 1.760 points to trade at 16.000 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TO: WEED ) declined 6.34% or 3.970 points to end at 58.630 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO: AAV ) shed 5.90% or 0.210 points to 3.350.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 607 to 483 and 129 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.88% to 13.95.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.30% or 15.50 to $1207.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.24% or 0.18 to hit $75.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.44% or 0.37 to trade at $84.61 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.08% to 0.7799, while CAD/EUR rose 0.16% to 0.6751.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 95.10.
