Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite unchanged

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite unchanged 0.00%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MEG Energy Corp (TO: MEG ), which rose 7.33% or 0.65 points to trade at 9.52 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO: IVN ) added 5.84% or 0.180 points to end at 3.260 and Bombardier Inc (TO: BBDb ) was up 5.16% or 0.240 points to 4.890 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TO: LB ), which lost 4.66% or 2.22 points to trade at 45.38 in late trade. Alacer Gold Corp (TO: ASR ) declined 3.64% or 0.090 points to end at 2.380 and Colliers International Group Inc (TO: CIGI ) shed 2.29% or 2.22 points to 94.58.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 738 to 379 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.99% to 13.30.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.18% or 2.30 to $1301.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.47% or 1.65 to hit $68.38 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 3.15% or 2.38 to trade at $77.87 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 1.00% to 0.7759, while CAD/EUR fell 0.06% to 0.6655.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.79% at 94.06.
