Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.15%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy , Financials and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ensign Energy Services Inc (TO: ESI ), which rose 6.13% or 0.40 points to trade at 6.92 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TO: IMG ) added 4.70% or 0.270 points to end at 6.020 and Tricon Capital Group Inc (TO: TCN ) was up 4.00% or 0.45 points to 11.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Element Fleet Management Corp (TO: EFN ), which lost 15.25% or 1.54 points to trade at 8.56 in late trade. Asanko Gold Inc (TO: AKG ) declined 13.10% or 0.330 points to end at 2.190 and MEG Energy Corp (TO: MEG ) shed 5.67% or 0.31 points to 5.16.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 594 to 532 and 139 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.78% to 13.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.53% or 6.73 to $1268.83 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.60% or 1.29 to hit $48.37 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.79% or 1.46 to trade at $50.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.40% to 0.7401, while CAD/EUR fell 0.86% to 0.6586.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 96.93.
