Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.58%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT , Clean Technology and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bonterra Energy Corp (TO: BNE ), which rose 6.52% or 1.04 points to trade at 16.99 at the close. Novagold Resources Inc . (TO: NG ) added 5.07% or 0.27 points to end at 5.60 and Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO: GUY ) was up 4.15% or 0.240 points to 6.020 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO: ELD ), which lost 7.07% or 0.28 points to trade at 3.62 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO: YRI ) declined 6.23% or 0.22 points to end at 3.31 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO: BB ) shed 4.98% or 0.74 points to 14.11.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 595 to 508 and 141 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 29.41% to 15.49 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 3.56 to $1267.84 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.48% or 0.22 to hit $46.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.11 to trade at $48.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.04% to 0.7503, while CAD/EUR rose 0.96% to 0.6697.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 97.15.
