Germany shares higher at close of trade; DAX up 0.96%

Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance , Transportation & Logistics and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.96% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index added 1.17%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.17%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE: CBKG ), which rose 3.09% or 0.284 points to trade at 9.486 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE: DBKGn ) added 2.35% or 0.395 points to end at 17.195 and Continental AG O.N. (DE: CONG ) was up 2.14% or 4.30 points to 205.30 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE: IFXGn ), which lost 2.26% or 0.430 points to trade at 18.600 in late trade. Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE: ALVG ) declined 1.42% or 2.50 points to end at 173.85 and Siemens AG (DE: SIEGn ) shed 0.60% or 0.80 points to 131.65.

The top performers on the MDAX were Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE: JUNG_p ) which rose 3.55% to 34.710, Osram Licht AG (F: OSRn ) which was up 3.30% to settle at 63.829 and K+S AG NA O.N. (DE: SDFGn ) which gained 2.67% to close at 21.955.

The worst performers were Metro AG ST O.N. (DE: MEOG ) which was down 1.34% to 29.745 in late trade, Salzgitter AG (DE: SZGG ) which lost 1.13% to settle at 31.580 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE: SY1G ) which was down 0.67% to 65.710 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE: ADAG ) which rose 2.86% to 9.727, Jenoptik AG (DE: JENG ) which was up 2.50% to settle at 26.600 and Software AG O.N. (DE: SOWG ) which gained 2.17% to close at 42.590.

The worst performers were S&T AG (F: SANT1 ) which was down 2.92% to 13.193 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE: AIXGn ) which lost 1.22% to settle at 5.270 and GFT Technologies AG (DE: GFTG ) which was down 0.80% to 19.160 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 469 to 292 and 19 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index , which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 3.83% to 14.53.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.31% or 16.31 to $1232.19 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 4.27% or 2.04 to hit $45.78 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 4.08% or 2.07 to trade at $48.72 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.84% to 1.0977, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.8499.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.59% at 98.67.
