Germany shares higher at close of trade; DAX up 1.85%
Credit: © Reuters. – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Resources , Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 1.85%, while the MDAX index gained 1.35%, and the TecDAX index added 0.93%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE: TKAG ), which rose 5.07% or 0.960 points to trade at 19.890 at the close. Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE: CBKG ) added 4.21% or 0.288 points to end at 7.127 and Linde AG O.N. (DE: LING ) was up 3.57% or 4.550 points to 132.000 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE: ADSGN ), which lost 0.24% or 0.300 points to trade at 123.500 in late trade. Vonovia SE (DE: VNAn ) added 0.05% or 0.01 points to end at 31.80 and Merck KGAA O.N. (DE: MRK ) gained 0.39% or 0.350 points to 90.090.

The top performers on the MDAX were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE: SDFGn ) which rose 5.91% to 22.235, Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE: LEOGn ) which was up 5.09% to settle at 30.475 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE: SZGG ) which gained 4.68% to close at 27.380.

The worst performers were Talanx AG NA O.N. (DE: TLXGn ) which was down 1.38% to 28.195 in late trade, Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE: DWNG ) which lost 0.83% to settle at 29.315 and Fielmann AG O.N. (DE: FIEG ) which was down 0.74% to 64.430 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE: SATG_p ) which rose 3.25% to 64.870, RIB Software AG Na (DE: RIB ) which was up 2.68% to settle at 8.651 and GFT Technologies AG (DE: GFTG ) which gained 2.21% to close at 21.525.

The worst performers were Slm Solution G (DE: AM3D ) which was down 2.98% to 23.44 in late trade, Drillisch AG O.N. (DE: DRIG ) which lost 1.62% to settle at 37.330 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE: MORG ) which was down 1.24% to 37.570 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 597 to 291 and 25 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index , which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 6.42% to 25.38.

In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.32% or 4.10 to $1265.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.77% or 0.38 to hit $49.51 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.80% or 0.40 to trade at $50.28 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.55% to 1.1359, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.7672.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.34% at 93.49.
