Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Media, Utilities and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.58%, while the MDAX index declined 0.78%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 3.32% or 0.360 points to trade at 11.200 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) added 2.05% or 0.335 points to end at 16.695 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) was up 1.81% or 2.45 points to 138.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn), which lost 3.53% or 1.280 points to trade at 34.965 in late trade. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) declined 1.81% or 0.149 points to end at 8.079 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) shed 1.73% or 1.80 points to 102.40.
The top performers on the MDAX were Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which rose 2.23% to 33.995, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which was up 1.65% to settle at 35.815 and Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which gained 1.46% to close at 11.10.
The worst performers were Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which was down 2.65% to 156.00 in late trade, Osram Licht AG (F:OSRn) which lost 2.59% to settle at 67.537 and Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which was down 2.48% to 16.350 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which rose 3.51% to 12.370, Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was up 1.35% to settle at 60.720 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which gained 1.12% to close at 26.975.
The worst performers were Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which was down 3.57% to 228.05 in late trade, Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which lost 3.37% to settle at 52.520 and RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which was down 2.86% to 14.590 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 551 to 214 and 22 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 8.12% to 15.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.15% or 1.82 to $1223.52 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.19% or 0.99 to hit $46.12 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.95% or 0.93 to trade at $48.72 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.50% to 1.1408, while EUR/GBP rose 0.28% to 0.8802.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 95.66.
